Wooden Dog House Versus Plastic Dog House

The choice of wood or plastic

Unless you are really young you probably remember when you were at the check out at the grocery store the bagging clerk would often ask whether you wanted paper or plastic.

The paper option has all but disappeared but when it comes to investing in a new dog house you still have that option.

But instead of paper it is wooden dog house versus plastic dog house.

This article is not going to tell which one is better, rather point out the common characteristics of each.

It is up to you to decide because there are so many different factors to consider when selecting a new dog house for your pet.

Given a mild climate a dog owner may be able to invest in a plastic dog house with no insulation whereas a dog owner in a harsh climate may not be able to do that.

Let’s take a look at both options starting with:

The plastic dog house

There are a lot of different options when it comes to a dog house made of plastic in terms of shape and sizes.

However there is somewhat of a limit because of the injecting mold process which will stamp out a lot of the components.

Given that fact you will not likely see some huge plastic dog houses, whereas a wooden dog house can be a monster size.

For the most part if you are on a tight budget this may be a good option for you, the only consideration that is important is the climate you reside in.

A plastic dog house (depending on size and model) will more than likely be delivered in a box that will require minor assembly.

The wooden dog house -

There is a huge selection of wooden dog houses because they can be made of cedar (most popular) pine, plywood, softwoods, hardwoods and even hybrid wood products.

More than likely you will pay more (not always) for a wooden dog house than a plastic one, because the cost of materials is a lot more for some woods than plastic.

Another factor that will determine cost is the size and when it comes to wooden dog houses the sky is the limit.

A wooden dog house will more than likely be delivered in a kit form, that being 4 wall panels, a roof assembly (may be 2 pieces) and the floor.
